Dr. Howard has spent his entire adult life dedicated to serving others. His early professional career includes servings as the youngest certified Paramedic in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. He then moved into Emergency Services Management and hospital administration. After ten years of pre-hospital medicine, Dr. Howard answered a call to parish ministry where he became an Ordained Elder in The United Methodist Church. While serving in parish ministry, Dr. Howard gained certification in Critical Incident Stress Debriefing, Fire/Police/Emergency Medical Services chaplaincy, and was trained as one of the first Master Chaplains in Homeland Security. Today he is the Department Chair for the Chaplaincy Department and is Professor of Crisis and Disaster Preparation for Missional University as well as a sought-after national public speaker.
Dr. Howard hasn't just read about crisis and heartache, he has emerged from it throughout his life; most notably the death of his son, a Marine Corps. Special Operations Command Sargent who died in 2009.
