Day 5: You aren't a pretzel. Just stretch.

Today's Healthiest Best You Daily Tip/Resource/Check-In

Daily Tip

Stretch.

One of the most intimidating things about stretching, aside from perhaps not knowing where to start and what to do, are the internet stock photos of people who are perfectly toned doing elaborate yoga poses. Especially, when you see those and you are feeling so out of shape, out of touch and/or so limited in flexibility. Even trying to find photos for this was difficult, so I chose a few below to show that most people can't do these stretches, maybe ...even .... ever.

You don't have to bend yourself into a pretzel to stretch.

So we're talking about more simple stretching. Like just the kind where you reach your arms about your head and touch the sky. Out stretch a leg and point/flex.

So our daily tip is to stretch and if you need to, please ignore all of the internet photos that show perfect toned people stretching on the coolest beaches and on the tops of mountains. If that is you, amazing. If it isn't you, start somewhere.... you're amazing too. Find what you can do and do more of that.

One of the best starting points for your healthiest you can begin with stretching.

Be You.

So....

Stretch. Stretch. Stretch and more stretch.

Do everything you can do to be more flexible and maintain your flexibility.

This doesn't have to be elaborate.

It can mean you reach for the sky with your arms and stretch.

Remember to stretch.

Daily Resource:

Butterfly Stretch

Sit tall on the floor with the soles of your feet together, knees bent out to sides.

  • Hold onto your ankles or your toes. Try to engage your abs, and slowly lower your body toward your feet as far as you can while pressing your knees toward the floor.

  • If you're too tight to bend over, simply press your knees down.

  • Hold this stretch for 10 seconds to 1 minutes at a time.

  • It also isn't necessary to lean forward at all. For beginners, just try to sit like this and stretch. Find your most comfortable way of doing this.

Daily Check-In:

  • Have you either walked a mile today or exercised for 20 minutes?

  • How much water are you drinking?

  • What are you eating?

  • How much are you eating?
