The good news is that you can start a successful coaching business with very little upfront investment. There is so much potential for an excellent income and so little risk to get started.
You don’t need to lease an office. Most coaches work from their homes and provide their coaching services via the telephone or internet. Coaching clients by telephone or internet means you have expanded your marketing opportunity across the globe.
Want to coach your clients in person? No problem! You can create a “Walk on the Beach with Coach” session or a “Coffee with Coach” session and meet up at Starbucks! Many times you can find very nice private rooms or office suites available for a small hourly rate.
You don’t need a lot of office equipment and/or supplies. All you really need to get your coaching practice started is an internet connection, a telephone, a computer and a printer. For office supplies, you will want to have a few writing utensils, note paper, stationary, printer ink and business cards.
When you are first starting out you don’t need to spend money on paid advertising. All you really need to do to get your coaching practice launched is to spread the word. Begin by telling everyone you know, about your coaching services, but before you start, be sure to develop your “Elevator Pitch”.
What's an elevator pitch?
The definition of elevator pitch is a short, crystal clear, concise statement about the type of coaching you will provide and the benefits your clients will receive.
With a great elevator pitch, you will be able to clearly state what type of coaching you provide and the benefits your clients will enjoy.
To create a great elevator pitch you must already have chosen your coaching specialty.
Getting Your First Clients!
Create a list of all the people you know, that could connect you with someone, who could use your coaching services. Include friends, family and extended family members, business colleagues, schoolmates, groups, church members, sports teams.
You will want to call or email them letting them know you are now offering services as a coach in your genre and are taking on new clients!
Spreading the Word
Create another list of people who would be potential referral partners for you.
For example if you are a divorce coach, you would want to connect with divorce attorneys and let them know about your services.
Reach out and connect with this list of potential referral partners. Share your elevator pitch with them!
Free Coaching Sessions
When you are first starting out, providing free coaching to a number of clients can be a highly effective way for you to gather valuable testimonials from very satisfied clients.
You may want to begin by offering three free coaching sessions in exchange for a written testimonial and three referrals to your client’s friends who may be interested in your coaching services.
Starting a coaching business will bring so much potential for an excellent income and there is so little risk to get started. You can work from home using your phone and computer, or walk on the beach with your client!
