The Sufferfest Raises Record Amount for Parkinson’s Research

The Sufferfest, creator of the world’s most comprehensive indoor cycling app and training videos for individual and group use, today announced that its fifth annual Tour of Sufferlandria raised a record-breaking $144,808 for the Davis Phinney Foundation and its programs to help those affected by Parkinson’s Disease. The Tour, known as “the Greatest Grand Tour of a Mythical Nation in the World”, took place Feb. 4 – 12, bringing together more than 5,400 participants from 65 countries to endure nine days of pain, misery and agony in support of a great cause. Over the past five years, the Tour has raised nearly $450,000 for the Davis Phinney Foundation. The foundation was founded in 2004 by Olympic medalist and cycling legend, Davis Phinney, who was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 2000 at the age of 40. It works to help those affected by the disease through outreach, educational programs and research. "We are extremely grateful to all the Sufferlandrians who competed in another grueling year of the tour," said Phinney. “This initiative kick starts our year on an incredibly strong footing, helping us maintain momentum throughout the rest of the year. Not only did the Sufferfest community meet its goal – they crushed it, exceeding our wildest dreams!” With a $10 donation, Sufferlandrians were eligible for the Tour’s list of amazing prizes worth over $28,000, including a Wattbike indoor trainer, a cycling vacation from Thomson Bike Tours, and an indoor cycling training bundle from Wahoo Fitness, as well as autographed paraphernalia by professional cyclists. “It’s always extremely encouraging to see how strong the Sufferlandrian community is, but this year it was especially inspiring to have our youngest athlete ever participate in the Tour,” said David McQuillen, The Sufferfest CEO. “At eight-years old, this young man used his own grandfather, who suffers from Parkinson’s, as his daily motivation to single-handedly raise nearly $11,000 for the foundation.” The Sufferfest features exclusive, officially-licensed footage from professional races like the Tour de France, Giro d’Italia and UCI World Championships, creating the ultimate training platform guaranteed to engage, challenge and entertain athletes of all levels. Since launching in late 2014, 125 fitness facilities in 14 countries have joined the network of ‘Sufferlandrian Embassies,’ including 13 in the United States.
