There are certain words in life that stay with us.
Not because they were spoken loudly, but because they were spoken with love.
The quiet reminders. The gentle encouragement. The steady guidance we didn’t always recognize in the moment—but carry with us for a lifetime.
For many of us, those words come from our mothers.
In a world that moves quickly and often feels disconnected, there is something deeply grounding about returning to the wisdom that shaped us. The kind of wisdom that isn’t complicated, but enduring. The kind that reminds us who we are, what matters, and how to move through life with grace.
In this special conversation, Norah Lawlor sits down with Elizabeth Hamilton-Guarino to talk about the inspiration behind Mom’s Book of Wisdom, a beautifully designed keepsake filled with timeless advice passed from one generation to the next.
Together, they explore the quiet power of a mother’s influence, the lessons that stay with us long after childhood, and why these messages of love, resilience, and compassion are more meaningful now than ever.

What inspired you to create Mom’s Book of Wisdom, and what did this project mean to you personally?
Mom’s Book of Wisdom was inspired by my deep appreciation for the guidance, grace, and quiet strength that mothers pass down through the generations. I wanted to create something that honored those timeless lessons in a way that felt heartfelt, beautiful, and lasting. Personally, this project meant a great deal to me because it became a tribute not only to my own mother, but to motherhood itself and the extraordinary role mothers play in shaping who we become.
This book feels like a collection of love, memory, and guidance. Was there a particular moment or memory that sparked the idea?
Yes, the idea came from reflecting on the small but powerful things mothers say and do that stay with us forever. Often, it is not one grand speech, but the quiet reminders, the loving encouragement, and the values woven into everyday life that leave the deepest impression. I wanted to capture that feeling and preserve it in a keepsake that readers could return to again and again.
The book draws on timeless advice passed from mother to child. What are some of the most powerful or universal lessons you’ve seen across generations?
Some lessons never lose their value: be kind, work hard, tell the truth, carry yourself with dignity, and treat others with compassion. Mothers also pass down resilience, teaching us to keep going through difficulty, and love, showing us that strength and tenderness can exist together. These are the lessons that transcend time, culture, and circumstance because they speak to the very heart of what it means to live well.
How has your own mother — or the idea of motherhood — shaped your perspective on life and wisdom?
My mother shaped my understanding of wisdom as something lived, not just spoken. Through her example, I learned that wisdom is often found in patience, generosity, good judgment, and the ability to remain grounded through life’s ups and downs. More broadly, motherhood represents selflessness, nurturing, and enduring love, and those qualities have deeply influenced the way I see life and relationships.
What makes a piece of advice truly “timeless,” in your opinion?
Timeless advice speaks to human nature. It remains relevant no matter how much the world changes because it is rooted in values that do not go out of style — love, integrity, courage, empathy, and faith. Truly timeless advice feels as meaningful today as it would have decades ago because it helps guide us back to what matters most.
In today’s fast-paced, digital world, why do you think people are craving more meaningful, tangible keepsakes like this?
We live in a world that moves very quickly, and so much of what we experience is fleeting. I think people are longing for something real they can hold in their hands, something thoughtful that invites them to slow down and reflect. A book like this offers comfort, connection, and permanence. It is not just read once and forgotten; it becomes something to treasure, revisit, and even pass on.
The book is described as both heartfelt and visually elegant. How important was the design and presentation in bringing this project to life?
The design was incredibly important. I wanted the book to feel as meaningful visually as it is emotionally. Presentation matters because it shapes how a reader experiences the words. I hoped to create something that was not only inspiring to read, but also beautiful to give and beautiful to keep — a true keepsake that reflects the tenderness and significance of its message.
Were there any stories, quotes, or reflections that deeply moved you while creating this book?
So much of the material moved me because it reminded me how universal a mother’s love and wisdom really are. There is something deeply touching about revisiting the kinds of words that guide us through childhood and continue to echo in adulthood. Many of the reflections in the book stirred memories of love, sacrifice, encouragement, and grace, and that emotional connection was present throughout the process of creating it.
What is one piece of advice from the book that you find yourself returning to again and again in your own life?
One message I return to often is to lead with kindness and strength at the same time. Life can be demanding, but kindness never weakens us; it deepens us. That balance of grace, resilience, and compassion is something I have always admired and something I try to carry with me every day.
What do you hope readers — whether they are mothers, daughters, or gift givers — feel when they open Mom’s Book of Wisdom?
I hope they feel warmth, love, and recognition. I hope the book reminds them of the women who shaped them, the values that anchor them, and the beauty of the bond between generations. Whether someone is giving it as a gift or receiving it, I hope it feels personal, comforting, and uplifting — something that touches the heart.
We’d also love for you to share any message you’d like to pass along to mothers everywhere, especially during Mother’s Day.
To mothers everywhere, thank you. Thank you for the love, sacrifice, strength, and wisdom you give so generously, often without asking for recognition. The influence of a mother reaches far beyond her own family; it helps shape the world. On Mother’s Day, I hope every mother feels seen, celebrated, and deeply appreciated for the extraordinary role she plays in our lives.
There’s something quietly powerful about remembering where we come from.
The words we were given. The lessons we were taught. The love that shaped us, often in ways we didn’t fully understand until much later.
As Norah shares, so much of a mother’s wisdom isn’t found in grand moments, but in the everyday—woven into how we live, how we treat others, and how we carry ourselves through the world.
And maybe that’s why it stays with us.
Because it becomes part of us.
In a time where everything feels fast, digital, and fleeting, there is something deeply meaningful about slowing down long enough to reflect, remember, and reconnect with what truly matters.
This is more than a book. It’s a reminder.
A reminder to:
lead with kindness
live with intention
carry strength and grace together
and never underestimate the quiet impact of love
Pause.
Breathe.
Choose to remember the wisdom that shaped you.
And if you have the opportunity—pass it on.
Because the most powerful legacies aren’t built in a moment. They’re carried forward, one generation at a time.
And when you grow, the world grows with you.
