Spa Spotlight: Fall Ingredients

Apple cider. Pumpkin. Cinnamon. Clove. Their appearance on menus is as clear a sign as the first falling leaves that autumn has arrived. And not only on restaurant menus – spas, too, are incorporating these classic fall ingredients into treatments that capture the sensory delights of the season. Here are some of the best seasonal spa treatments on offer at some of the nation’s finest resorts to tempt your readers this fall:

· Apple cider treatments in the Adirondacks: After a glorious day outdoors exploring the Adirondacks in all its autumn splendor, guests of Whiteface Lodge in Lake Placid, New York, can unwind with a selection of apple cider-infused spa treatments, each capped off with a glass of warm apple cider. Offerings include:

o Apple Cider Masque and Massage Body Treatment. Mineral clays from the Canadian seas, iced cider, and apple vinegar are combined in a rehydrating body masque and wrap. The treatment includes a rebalancing scalp and full body massage with an apple extract-infused body crème. 80 minutes, $190.

o Apple Cider Deluxe Pedicure. Ancient sea mineral crystals and apple cider gently exfoliate, repair and tone legs and feet, while cuticles and nails are restored with a gentle file, cuticle treatment, and an application of soothing apple cream. 80 minutes, $80.

o Apple Cider Soak. This soak in the spa’s hydrotherapy tub employs Dead Sea salts and mineral crystals to draw out toxins and impurities from deep in the body, renewing muscle strength and cellular repair. 25 minutes, $65.

· Pampering with pumpkin on Florida’s Gold Coast: Pumpkin is the star ingredient this season at Sispa in two Florida beachfront locations: Palm Beach Marriott Singer Island Beach Resort & Spa (Riviera Beach, Fla.) and Fort Lauderdale Marriott Pompano Beach Resort & Spa (Pompano Beach, Fla.). Natural enzymes in pumpkin boost radiance by deeply cleaning pores, temporarily shrinking their look, and improving the appearance of broken capillaries and uneven skin tone.

Treatments include:

o Muddy Pumpkin Body Treatment. This treatment includes a body scrub exfoliation, pumpkin mud wrap, and scalp and foot massage. A post-wrap shower includes a warm cinnamon oil applied to hydrate the body. 50 minutes, $99.

o Muddy Pumpkin Mani-Pedi. Hands and feet enjoy all the pampering with this pumpkin mud wrap followed by a massage with cinnamon oil and warm stones. A nail grooming and polish caps it off. 80 minutes, $99.

· Spice is nice in the Sonoran Desert: Clove and black pepper are employed in an invigorating Bodhi Body Contouring Treatment at Sanctuary Spa, the award-winning spa at Sanctuary on Camelback Mountain (Paradise Valley, Ariz.). A gentle body polish prepares the skin for a spicy warming body mask wrap that stimulates blood vessels for better circulation as it nourishes the skin. The treatment also includes a gentle facial massage with warm herbal poultices and a relaxing Swedish-style massage using a blend of black pepper, clove bud and kaffir lime essential oils. 90 minutes, $235 weekdays/$245 Friday through Sunday; Two hours, $300 weekdays/$310 Friday through Sunday.
