Myrtle Beach Attraction Offers Hands-On Space Exploration and STEAM Learning for All Ages

Myrtle Beach may be known for its beaches, boardwalks, and sun-soaked fun, but there’s a new kind of adventure happening indoors—one that launches guests straight into orbit.

Inside the iconic upside-down building that houses WonderWorks Myrtle Beach, visitors are stepping into the Space Discovery Zone for a summer experience that’s as educational as it is exhilarating. With July 20 marking National Space Exploration Day, the timing couldn’t be more perfect to celebrate humanity’s fascination with the final frontier.

“We’re honoring the incredible achievements in space exploration by giving our guests the chance to experience it firsthand,” says Kaitlin Barnes, education sales manager at WonderWorks Myrtle Beach. “Whether it’s trying on a space suit or taking a spin in our Astronaut Training Challenge, the Space Zone brings the cosmos to life in a fun, hands-on way.”

The Space Discovery Zone invites kids and adults alike to dive into the science of space travel. Visitors can explore a life-sized replica of a Project Mercury capsule, pilot a simulated space shuttle, and even experience a taste of zero gravity in a multi-person gyroscope that mimics astronaut training. A replica EVA suit lets guests get a feel for the bulky but vital equipment astronauts rely on in orbit, while interactive exhibits bring the moon, Mars, and the mysteries of the galaxy within reach.

It’s not just a thrill—there’s a strong educational component woven throughout. WonderWorks uses the excitement of space to foster curiosity and teach real-world concepts in science, technology, engineering, art, and math (STEAM). It’s an immersive experience where learning happens naturally through play and discovery.

But space isn’t the only focus. The Space Discovery Zone is just one of six Wonder Zones inside the Myrtle Beach location, each designed to ignite curiosity and challenge the imagination. From hurricane simulators and giant bubble labs to ropes courses and laser tag, WonderWorks blends physical activity with mental stimulation in a way that appeals to every type of learner and adventurer.

“Summer is in full swing here in Myrtle Beach,” says Robert Stinnett, general manager. “Whether you’re planning a birthday party, a family outing, or just looking to beat the heat, WonderWorks offers something for everyone.”

Birthday party options—especially for aspiring young astronauts—are also out of this world. WonderWorks offers three themed packages complete with private party rooms, fresh-made pizza, and unlimited access to all exhibits and attractions. It’s an ideal way to celebrate in a space that’s anything but ordinary.

From gravity-defying simulations to creative hands-on learning zones, WonderWorks Myrtle Beach continues to be a go-to destination for families seeking something beyond the beach this summer.
