The Yellow Tulip Project: A Journey Towards Hope and Healing

Updated: Jan 4

A Personal Story of Transformation

When I was in middle school, I felt an overwhelming sense of loneliness. I struggled with my own depression, and the deafening silence surrounding mental health made it hard for me to reach out for help. It wasn’t until I lost my two best friends to suicide at the age of 15 that I finally found my voice. That tragedy ignited a fire within me to speak out and advocate for change.

My mom, Suzanne Fox, and I had a vision. We wanted to create a safe space for determined youth to combat stigma, build community, and inspire conversations about mental health. Thus, the Yellow Tulip Project was born. Our mission is clear: we aim to smash the stigma surrounding mental illness and ensure that everyone knows there is help and hope available. This is why we need YOU.

The Heart of the Yellow Tulip Project

Today, the Yellow Tulip Project is a small non-profit with big hearts and even bigger goals. We invite you to consider making a donation to the YTP. Every contribution, no matter how big or small, is deeply appreciated and will help us expand our outreach and advocacy programs.

Our mission is to create a community where mental illness is as normal to discuss as any physical ailment. We are dedicated to making this vision a reality, and we believe that hope flourishes when youth and community leaders unite.

Celebrating Our Achievements

2025 has been an incredible year for us. We have successfully smashed stigma, amplified youth voices, and cultivated hope. We are profoundly grateful for every person who has stood beside us. As we look ahead, 2026 marks a significant milestone: The Yellow Tulip Project’s 10th Anniversary.

"This milestone is possible because you believed in our message. Our community showed up, shared stories, planted gardens, and supported this movement in ways big and small. Every bulb planted, every dollar donated, and every brave conversation helped build a decade of hope. In 2026, we celebrate all of you who made this possible."

In 2025, we achieved remarkable milestones:

  • 49 new ambassadors joined our movement.

  • 90+ new Hope Gardens were established in communities to ensure no one feels alone.

  • 37 virtual workshops and events were offered, impacting over 5,700 people.

The Reality We Face

Despite our hard work, we must confront some harsh truths about mental health:

  • Every 40 seconds, someone dies by suicide.

  • Suicide is the second leading cause of death for individuals aged 10-34.

  • Anxiety affects 1 in 4 youths between the ages of 13-18.

  • 80% of those affected do not receive the treatment they need.

  • Suicide rates have increased overall by 35% since 1999.

These statistics remind us of the urgency of our mission. We must continue to advocate for mental health awareness and support.

Programs for Schools

Program Packages for Schools outline how The Yellow Tulip Project (YTP) can collaborate with your school to introduce a year-long roadmap aimed at enhancing the overall mental wellness of the student body. Our programs align with Social Emotional Learning (SEL) goals and offer simple, proactive, and positive activities. These can be easily integrated into any school programming to create hopeful and safe spaces for addressing mental wellness.

We understand that approaching this topic as educators can feel overwhelming. That’s why YTP’s goal is to work with schools willing to take on this initiative and help them implement it effectively. Together, we can foster a healthier school environment for all.

A Call to Action

As we move forward, I encourage you to stay safe, take care of yourselves, and remember that you are never alone on your journey. Together, we can create a world where mental health is openly discussed and where everyone feels supported.
