"Until we embrace the women in the elevator who are older, younger, prettier, smarter, sexier, plumper, richer and poorer we will be at odds with one another. When we have compassion and allow our jealousy to signal what we want for ourselves and utilize it for positive personal action rather than being negative and vindictive then we really are on the right path." ~ Brianna Brown
Actress Brianna Brown is on a mission. Unfortunately for her, it can't include getting any prettier, smarter, or down-to-earth, because she has that mastered. This Minnesota native, who, by the way just said, “Yeah MN!” is one of the nicest and smartest upcoming actresses that you will ever come across. In a profession, with her looks and star quality, she could easily be a total snob. But instead, this actress who has been in over 15 movies and countless TV appearances will always pleasantly remind of the fact that she is REAL!
So real, in fact, she has formed "The New Hollywood”, a Women's Goal Group, based in Los Angeles and New York City. This is a group of professional women in the entertainment industry of all ages, backgrounds and ethnicities, that strives to support each other to achieve their individual, personal and professional goals. The New Hollywood provides a safe environment where their members are accepted as they are and encouraged to fulfill their potential. Brown says, "The New Hollywood" is a "new" way for women in Hollywood and beyond to interact with each other. It's amazing to see what can be accomplished when women love and support one another in being their personal best rather than being competitive and negative. The intention of my group(s) is to help other brilliant women be the best they can be in all areas of their lives. It is quite an inspiring group of women.”
This new group is currently helping fundraise for the "Women and Power Hour" event along with director/producer and first lady of San Francisco, Jennifer Siebel Newsom, for her documentary "Miss Representation.” This is a documentary that explores why women are underrepresented and misrepresented in positions of power and influence in America, and what we can do to promote change. ("Miss Representation" is a non-profit project and all donations are tax deductible.)
We'll get back to all the Hollywood stuff in just a minute, but we want to ask Brianna some questions:
What do you feel makes for your Best Ever YOU? I think what makes me the Best Ever Me is beauty. The beauty of nature and the beautiful hearts and souls I surround myself with and get to meet unexpectedly. The beauty that comes with exploring new characters, understanding what makes people tick and being able to portray it on screen or stage.
We love to hear about what people's favorite jeans are: Brianna says, “When I get them for free at an event and they fit!” (Ok, she might be a little spoiled) We think that if they don't, you should send them to us in Maine!
Any beauty tips? Always pay attention to whom you are getting advice from. If they have caked on makeup, bad skin, bad hair, etc… ask someone else.
Do you have anything fitness related to help people? Diets don't work!! Neither does over-working out to stay thin. But I think it's important to do cleanses twice a year to clear out the gunk, like getting your teeth cleaned at the dentist... It's important. I also think you should only eat until you are satisfied. You'll leave a lot on your plate at first, but if you listen to your body your body will help you. It shouldn't be a battle, and if it is then you might be avoiding not wanting to feel certain things and medicating with food. Remember to let yourself feel it and cry it out. Then go be nice to yourself. Work out with buddies, set goals and enjoy seasonal sport activities as well as yoga or meditation to work out the "brain" and spirit.
On women Brown says, "Until we embrace the women in the elevator who are older, younger, prettier, smarter, sexier, plumper, richer and poorer we will be at odds with one another. When we have compassion and allow our jealousy to signal what we want for ourselves and utilize it for positive personal action rather than being negative and vindictive then we really are on the right path."
Back to the New Hollywood from our Brianna Best Ever YOU Beauty break:
Brown is currently in Hollywood working on new projects and is currently in the beginning stages of writing a how to create your own "The New Hollywood" Women's Goal Group.
Brown says, "As women we are taught to be cheerleaders for our partners and our children. I feel "The New Feminism" is learning to be cheerleaders for ourselves and other women around us. I think that's the only way there will be true equality...if we stick together and love each other without forcing each other to reach an unrealistic bar of perfection. I honestly think the only thing holding women back ... are women. (In free countries of course!)"
"The New Hollywood" is currently involved in a project called, "Women Supporting Women Supporting Mother Nature". They produced a calendar and had a launch party in the fall of 2009 to raise funds for Conservation International. "We supplyied mostly green or female owned companies within our gift bags and in our silent auction. Everything raised went toward Conservation International. Keep posted on our website for future events." says Brown.
